Set in the late 1960s/early 1970s the layout represents a fictitious London Transport loco and minor permanent way depot in a fictitious location ‘’Somewhere-in-London’.
This layout is based on the assumption that in the late 1930s London Transport inherited a former mainline railway’s goods depot somewhere on the northern side of the Circle Line between Kings Cross and Moorgate. In reality there is not really any such location, but the aim is to give a compact shunting layout capable of running LT pannier locos, Met electrics and some service stock.
The track is Peco code 100 with short radius points and the conductor rails are Peco Code 60. The conductor rails are only present on part of the trackwork. This is a deliberate design policy to make operation that bit more complicated. The fiddle yard is on the main boards and is concealed behind a retaining wall
The motive power is all DCC controlled although the points are manually switched. The motive power is provided by Bachmann LT Pannier Tanks, Heljan Met electrics and a Hornby 0-4-0 Sentinel shunter numbered L84 in the green livery that LT had on their three 0-6-0 Sentinels Nos L81/L82/L83. All these had an addition trailer bogie to assist in track circuit operation which has also been attached to my L84! A ballast motor car set is under construction using a Radley Models kit and some service wagons are also represented.
